Norma

Norma is an opera composed by Vincenzo Bellini. This essay is going to search the music and dramatic aspects of the duet in Act II which is sung by characters Norma and her make dor Pollione. The opera is about a Druid High Priestess named Norma who falls in cognise with a popish Pollione. At this time the Romans invaded the druids and therefore Norma and Pollione are mortal enemys. They call on up having two sons which are hidden and are a secret. Pollione falls in love with Adalgisa a young temple virgin who works under Norma. Therefore Pollione betrays Norma. Adalgia tells Norma about her love and realises that it cannot happen. Adalgia does not want to betray Norma and therefore rejects Pollione. Norma attempts to kill her children, simply stops because of her love for them. Instead she tells Adalgia to look after her children with Pollione, all Adalgia wants to stay loyal to Norma and so she goes to tell Pollione to do his duty. Pollione attempts t o centering Adalgia but is caught and is prisoner to the druids. It is in this scene which Norma is to condemn Pollione to death. look at the libretto the major dramatic sections would be when Pollione is first presented as the prisoner. This is because Norma seems shocked and golden at the homogeneous time because she states E desso! (It is he!) off to the side.

At the same time she is happy because she states Son vendicata adesso! (I am avenged) this meaning that she has a chance to revenge him for betraying her and their children. Another dramatic part is when the chorus is telling Norma to transport Pol lione Ferisci! I chose this because it is a ! powerful statement to want or so one dead.
